Digital Shorts on iPad test drive

So we spoke about the Digital Shorts last time around and that they were designed to be viewed on devices like iPad, Kindle etc. So today we test drove the Digital Short #1 “REMASTER” (art by Sid Kotian) on the iPad.

As you can see, we chose the so-called “Zuda Format” for the digital shorts, because it is better for viewing on a digital reader (iPad, Kindle etc.)

And, even if I must say it myself, the results look damn freakin’ cool :).

Who likes short shorts? :)

Things are sort of humming on the art front after a lull and Vivek is busy churning out story pages. We always envisioned Mumbai Confidential as a universe rather than just one book (something like Ed Brubaker’s CRIMINAL or Frank Miller’s SIN CITY). So apart from the main book “GOOD COP, BAD COP”, there will be a series of digital shorts about characters, events outside of the book’s scope. Reading these shorts isn’t mandatory to enjoy the book, but they do enhance the backstory.

First digital short is pencilled, inked, lettered and ready. We’ll be releasing it soon on the website. The art is by Sid Kotian (DEVI, EAT THE DEAD, RAMAYAN RELOADED, THE STRANDED). So keep your eyes peeled for that. The shorts will also be available for other digital readers like iPhone, iPad and Kindle.

Ah, and before I forget — a new one sheeter for MC.

Another Teaser

Following up on teaser I posted earlier, here’s another one done with a slightly more “euro” style. The images used are from interior art by Vivek. As usual, your comments/crits are most welcome.

Also in other news, good things are happening vis-a-vis MC in a medium other than comic books :), more on that when we are allowed to share.

In case you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the chapter 1 preview

Teaser Poster

While Vivek is moving on with the artwork, I decided to play around with some of his explorations for a teaser poster.

What do you think?

“ENCOUNTER” – New Art for MC

MC uses multiple timelines and intersecting narratives (a homage to Tarantino’s “chapter” based storytelling as in PULP FICTION or KILL BILL). The first timeline uses a high contrast b/w style as you’ve seen in the previews. Vivek just turned in some work on the other timeline and it looked so fabulous, I had to share it with you. 🙂

I shall be updating the site later with the new character explorations and concept art.

Chapter 1 Ashcans for Free Comic Book Day (FCBD 2010)

Ordered some ashcans off of ComiXPress of the Chapter 1 preview for Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) on May 1, 2010. I shall most probably be giving these away at my awesome local comic book store That’s Entertainment in Worcester, MA on FCBD 2010.

The ashcans really came out great. Going to order some more of these to give out at Albany Comic Con in April 2010, if I decide to attend it. Here are some hastily snapped cellphone photos. Click on the images for larger versions.

Site updated

So after getting quite a few quotes north of $500, I decided to just bite the bullet and create a WordPress theme for Mumbai Confidential website myself. It was not much of a pain. The current theme you see is created from scratch and was coded using the excellent Komodo Edit in a box running Ubuntu Karmic Koala. I made the site layout I wished in GIMP and then chopped it up into an HTML page.

I found a really nice resource for coding WP Themes by hand at themeshaper.com. So after a night’s slog, I had a working theme. It’s my first wordpress theme and would love if you dropped me a note if you encounter a glitch in the matrix while browsing the pages.

All in all it was fun unleashing the geekery once again :), now back to xmas holidays and waiting for the christmas blizzard of ’09 to hit Shrewsbury. We’ll be back in Jan with new art, a full preview of chapter 1 and many more goodies.

See you on the other side.
